Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need travel insurance?
Medical emergencies abroad can cause very high costs - sometimes much higher than in Switzerland. If you become ill or have an accident in high-cost medical countries such as the USA, Japan, Canada or Australia, basic insurance will not cover the costs by far. And if you have to be brought back to Switzerland for medical care - for example in an ambulance jet - there may be high costs that basic insurance does not cover.
I already have additional insurance TOP: Do I need travel insurance?
No, with the TOP supplementary health insurance you are already adequately insured in the event of medical emergencies while traveling abroad. The same applies to the two supplementary health insurance policies COMPLETA and OMNIA.
WORLD travel insurance is particularly useful for people who want more protection when traveling abroad and do not already have additional health insurance.
Do I need a health declaration for WORLD?
No, no health declaration is required to take out WORLD, as pre-existing conditions are generally not insured. You cannot therefore claim any benefits for suffering or events that had already occurred or were already apparent to you at the time the insurance began or the trip was booked.
Does WORLD reimburse the cancellation costs for cancellations?
No. WORLD travel insurance primarily covers events relating to medical emergencies abroad.
However, WORLD will cover the costs of a visit from someone close to you if you have to be hospitalized abroad for a longer period of time. And if you are unable to take your return flight as planned due to a hospital stay, WORLD will also refund you the rebooking fees. You will also receive a contribution towards your additional costs if you have to cancel your trip for certain reasons, for example because someone in your family is seriously ill, injured or dies.
Who can take out this insurance?
You can take out the insurance if you meet the following requirements:
You live in Switzerland (official residence).
You have already taken out basic insurance with the Helsana Group or are applying for it at the same time as WORLD.
How and when can I cancel the insurance?
The minimum term is one year. The contract is automatically extended for another year each year when it expires.
You can cancel the insurance on December 31st and switch to another health insurance company in Switzerland. A notice period of three months applies. The notice of termination must be received by us no later than the last working day in September. If the insurance premium changes, a one-month notice period applies. We must then receive the notice of termination by the last working day in November at the latest.
Is there a waiting period?
A waiting period is the time (from the beginning of a contract) during which you are not yet entitled to insurance benefits. The length of a waiting period can vary depending on the insurance benefit.
In the case of maternity, a waiting period of 365 days applies. In this case, you can only receive benefits after the end of the first insurance year at the earliest.
